Altera Selects Exodus' Managed Hosting to Support Its Corporate Internet Presence

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 3, 2001--Exodus Communications®, Inc., (Nasdaq:EXDS), the premier managed hosting provider for enterprises with mission-critical Internet operations, today announced that Altera Corporation (Nasdaq:ALTR), has chosen Exodus® to host and manage its Internet operations. Altera chose to outsource its Internet operations to Exodus based on the company's ability to provide a complete value-added solution, rapid solution delivery and optimal security features, including managed intrusion detection. Altera's pioneering system-on-programmable-chip (SOPC) solutions address its customers' needs from prototype to production. To successfully deliver on this commitment, scalable and reliable web-enabled information exchange and transactions among Altera, its customers and suppliers is vital.

Exodus' managed hosting services reduce risk with a single point of contact and accountability and increase cost-effectiveness, security, scalability and time to market, providing completely outsourced solutions for Internet operations. Exodus' managed hosting solves customer problems of increasingly complex Internet infrastructure through either a standard, pre-configured, automated solution or a custom solution tailored to meet individual company needs.

``We chose Exodus to manage our Internet operations for several reasons including its proven track record in the hosting industry, its ability to get a company's Internet operations up and running quickly, its flexibility and its strong emphasis on security,'' said Dave Swan, Manager of Global Network Operations, for Altera. ``By leveraging Exodus' hosting expertise, we are able to focus on our core competencies and continue to provide our customers, suppliers and employees with superior quality and service.''

Companies today are increasingly recognizing the need to outsource their Internet operations in order to reduce their total cost of ownership and focus solely on their core business. In a report from June 2001, Forrester Research states that firms can save 25% to 80% of their Web infrastructure costs by hosting. As the host of mission-critical Internet operations for more than 4,500 companies in the world's largest global network of Internet Data Centers, with a trusted brand name, Exodus is uniquely poised as the leading fully outsourced solution provider in the managed hosting market. Exodus offers a variety of services, including system and network management solutions and professional services, to help ensure optimal performance, availability and security for customers' Web sites.
